There’s definitely room for the business to grow and with how fast things move every day, there are a lot of possibilities for employees to move up the ladder – if they can hit aggressive targets. "cons": "As a former onboarder at Top Hat, I’ve worked with people in many different roles. When I joined Top Hat, I was eager to work, but it became apparent to me very early on that there were a lot of issues – even as early as my second interview when I faced a question based in sexism. \r\nHere are some of the biggest issues:\r\n- Many of the middle managers and even senior management lack experience. People are either being hired externally based on nepotism or are promoted without being given training to equip them to be good managers. Many are good people, but don’t know basics around rules of engagement or even the product. If managers are expected to lead by example, this is a recipe for disaster. This has improved a bit since we got a new CEO, but the targets for those in a sales role are very steep and as a result, there is high turnover. What’s most disappointing is that some of those who are let go or placed on performance improvement plans are good at their job and excel when they leave the company. What does that say about the culture and management?\r\n- Superficial efforts toward improving diversity, inclusion and belonging. We have racist managers with blatant disregard for mental health. We also have a culture of seeing everything through rose-colored lenses. Some call this positivity “drinking the kool-aid”, but it has such a negative effect on mental health. The company goes so far as to censor dialogue around diversity and has extremely toxic execs to oversee the DIB efforts. These execs will either turn the conversation into how they feel they are being attacked as privileged people or they’ll completely ignore you. \r\n- If you’re looking to be an onboarder, don’t. For the sake of your mental health, please look into other companies or other roles. The work-life balance does not exist and is nothing short of detrimental, extending to family and friends. You will be treated with a lack of respect by other teams. When other teams cannot hit target, you feel the pressure from Account Executives who push you to accept their unsold professors and from Account Managers who don’t have the time to work with professors who are no longer in your pipeline. As an onboarder, you will need to work overtime or run the risk of accepting the blame when professors decide not use Top Hat or if they decide not to renew. You also will not be compensated for any overtime. I have colleagues who have put in 16 hour work days because of the lack of support and the amount of work that is piled on.",
