We are seeking an experienced, first-on-the-ground Cloud FinOps Engineer to manage and optimize a multi-million-dollar cloud budget across a range of providers such as AWS, DigitalOcean, Vultr, Snowflake, Cloudflare, and more.
Reporting directly to the COO, this role will focus on identifying cost-saving opportunities, optimizing cloud resource usage, driving financial accountability, and implementing optimizations.
The ideal candidate has a very strong technical understanding, a DevOps background, a proven track record of reducing cloud costs, with the ability to thrive in a collaborative, yet a fast-paced, environment, working closely with engineering and procurement teams.
Cloud Cost Management: Analyze and monitor cloud spending across multiple platforms. Develop strategies to optimize cloud usage and reduce costs while ensuring performance reliability.
Optimization and Implementation: Recommend cost-saving measures, and implement optimizations (rightsizing resources, adjusting storage tiers, or leveraging spot instances).
Reporting and Forecasting: Develop regular reports on cloud expenditure, usage trends, and cost-optimization initiatives. Provide accurate cloud budget forecasts and variance analysis for executive leadership.
Collaboration: Partner with procurement teams to support vendor negotiations by providing detailed usage data and cost insights. Work closely with engineering and product teams to align resource allocation with business objectives.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience:
-Proven success in reducing cloud costs in at least two organizations while managing multi-million-dollar budgets across multiple providers.
-Deep expertise in platforms like AWS, GCP, Azure, DigitalOcean, Vultr, Snowflake, and Cloudflare.
Skills:
-Advanced analytical and technical skills to optimize cloud spending, deliver actionable insights, and streamline cost monitoring through scripting/automation tools.
-Proficiency with cloud cost management tools (e.g., AWS Cost Explorer, CloudHealth) and a strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, and pricing models.
-Familiarity with FinOps frameworks and AWS certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect, Cloud Practitioner).
-Strong collaboration abilities to work cross-functionally with engineering, finance, and procurement teams.
