CTO at Superscanner

Superscanner monitors prices from retailers online, specifically in the food and drug industries. We collect millions of data points, match identical or similar products and make this available in dashboards, exports and API’s for retailers and brands. Using this technology, we serve almost every retailer in the Netherlands as well as a lot of retailers in Belgium, some in France, some in Luxembourg and some in Germany.

We specialize in servicing retailers; we have a lot of tools that they specifically want. We have technology that is specifically tailored to their needs and ensures their products are priced accurately. Our technology basically sends out notifications once the competitors’ prices change, assortments change or pricing rules are violated. By doing this, our customers can make sure they remain ahead.

Since the pandemic, customers are relying more on web data. Particularly during the height of the Corona crisis, a lot of companies that had teams going into stores and writing down prices or using apps to collect these prices were no longer welcome in these stores due to the limited number of people allowed in. In France, for example, all the stores just closed. So, companies relied on web data platforms.

Stores are open again, and some retailers are not present online. So, you’re still dependent on price checks in stores. But I do think a lot of people have increased their trust in the online solution. Some retailers don’t share every price online for various products that they really want to keep to themselves. So, these prices still need to be measured in the store. In general, people have been trusting the online sphere more.

Initially, we were doing the same thing ourselves, but it took a lot of resources from the development team to maintain the solution, which needed a lot of maintenance. So, we wanted to outsource this part and just collect and get the public data from Bright Data and no longer have to worry about it ourselves. This saves us a lot of time and frees up people to do important work that otherwise they could not address.

The greatest benefit of using Bright Data is that we can forget that they exist. Which basically means that aside from paying my bill, of course, I don’t need to bother myself with questions such as, “Why is this not working? What’s wrong with this? Help me with this…”

Basically, we can just rely on Bright Data for our web data needs and we plan to continue using their solutions in the future.

Even though the ongoing influx of coronavirus waves continues to affect and shape the world as we know it, the trajectory of the global travel and hospitality industry looks to be promising; in fact, it is ‘projected to cross into the numbers we used to see in 2019,’ before the onset of the pandemic.
